Re-appeAring soon?

Lawyering has been virtual for over a year now and there’s no word on when we’ll be making in person appearances again.  For attorneys like myself who’ve been practicing for decades, 2020 was the first year ever where we had no live interaction with the courts, judges, and opposing counsel. It’s been weird.  Familiar faces, lively personalities, friends, and even the occasional grumps who were part of the choreography of our lives disappeared.

Do I miss in person court appearances?

Yes and no.   Like many others, I’ve turned my home into a virtual office where I can call into hearings and zoom appear for depositions or trials.  It’s been convenient and the time I’ve saved working from home I’ve used to work out daily and catch up on personal projects.  On the downside, some issues require the immediacy of being in a room with opposing counsel and the judge to resolve or adjudicate.  Sometimes, eyeballing your adversary live is the only way to move things forward. Not to mention, the relationships and respect that attorneys build with opposing counsel through daily personal interactions.

We’re at a crossroads in our law practice as covid driven changes seem to be fading.  Whether in person or virtual, we’ll continue to provide the best possible representation for our clients!
