Hands

It’s been 8 years now since my father passed away.   As a kid, I remember all of the work that he would do to provide for his family.  From installing a new roof on our home, (which I begrudgingly assisted him in), to fixing his old pickup truck, to installing fencing.  He was a man who wasn’t afraid of working with his hands.  And those hands showed the effects of his efforts.  Sliced fingers duct taped together to stop bleeding, calloused raw palms, crooked fingers that had been broken and healed.  His brown skin ravaged by years of toil.

Today I am reminded of my father as I sit across from clients whose hands show the same markings.   People who sacrifice their limbs in the fields, construction, warehouses, janitorial services and more.  I’ve been lucky enough to help the workers of our state with their legal needs for decades now.  I’d like to think that my father would be proud of our advocacy on their behalf!

Helping injured workers.
